Riding the Bus

The boys new favorite thing to do is ride the bus. CB has a free shuttle that runs between town and the mountain and you would think it was an attraction the boys get so excited to ride.

Cooper always seems a little apprehensive when we ride.

Mike thinks he worries because he is not buckled in. Like he is doing something wrong. I think he is busy people watching. Skiers in all the gear are kind of funny looking.
Almost everyone in town rides up to go skiing, and they all wear their gear (goggles, helmet, gloves, etc) because it is easier then caring it all.

Brooks and Ty love it. It does not really even matter what we are doing once we get to the mountain, they just like riding the bus.

Cooper's Turn

The big boys don't do anything without Cooper right behind them doing it too. Apparently this includes crashing on the sled. Today it was Cooper's turn to come in crying and scraped up. Mike said he just leaned and the sled turned him right into the snow bank
Cooper loves sledding. I don't know why he was having so much trouble shifting his weight. Poor baby.
nothing a sucker won't fix!

Ty Has the Look

Ty went with us to take Brooks to his lesson on Friday. He was wearing his bibs and glasses and had the look of a shredderyou'll notice Cooper in the background playing in the water fountain. Ty thinks he is ready to ski, but we decided to wait until next winter.
we were just not sure he was coordinated enough this year to tackle the mountain.
He had fun watching Brooks and now knows what he has to look forward to.
He will at least be ready with the style when the time is right.

Brooks Skiing

Brooks was practicing his skiing in the drive yesterday. His first few lessons had not been going well this season, so we decided to practice at home a little to build his confidence.
Our drive is a good grade for him and not too long, so he had lots of success and only a few spills.

Brooks had his own magic carpet too!
Mike had to have pushed him back up the drive at least 30 times--he was whooped

He had fun, and is now ready to go back to the mountain and try again.

The Reason My Q-Tip Container is Always Empty

Ty will put q-tips in his ears and walk around the house. Now when I need a q-tip there may or may not be any in my container.

Ty being the good big brother he is, has now taught this trick to Cooper. Cooper is not quite as good at it, but he eventually gets them in his ears.

HOPE

Today I am filled with HOPE. A hope that is sweeping our country as we have something exciting happening today in Washington.
I read a letter that Barack Obama wrote to his daughters that was published in Parade magazine. This letter brought tears to my eyes.As a parent, it is all I want for my boys as well. Today I have hope for my boys' future!

******Dear Malia and Sasha,I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.
When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore.I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.
I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential--schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them.I want them to have the chance to go to college--even if their parents aren't rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.
I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you'll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other.
Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country-but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free-that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility. That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something. She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better--and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us.
It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you've had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much-although you do have that obligation. But because you have an obligation to yourself.Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential. These are the things I want for you--to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have.
That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure.I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.
Love, Dad
Happy Inaguration Day!

Ty's Sledding Accident

Ty had an accident while sledding yesterday. At the bottom on the drive his sled turned and he slid into the snow/ice bank. It would usually just be snow, but it has not snowed here in a few days so it has thawed and refrozen several times making everything icy. Poor baby!
So it is like a road rash on his cheek, but it is from the ice bank he crashed into head first. I have to snicker a little bit when Mike said his feet and lower body lifted up off the sled when he smacked the snow

Still managed a smile.

I thought it would have been better by now, but it was still pretty red this morning.
Maybe next time he will get a hand up.

I found these pictures from Christmas time and realized I had never posted them.
Mike and the boys were in the living room building a gingerbread train. I came around the corner and this is what Cooper had to show me.I of course could tell immediately what Cooper was up to.....and he had help.Mike was keeping Cooper quiet by squirting green icing in his mouth you can tell how far away he was from were they were really working on the train.
Brooks was not going to miss out on the icing!
Ty got right in there but didn't have any icing--he does not have much of a sweet tooth

final product was really cool
